Empire is home to an eclectic mix of art, quality craft and handpicked vintage items.  Owner Jillaine Murray's label, The Black Pixie, is all about art and beautiful craft created using recycled and repurposed items,  so it's no surprise the store has been created in that vein. When sourcing artworks for Empire,  Jillaine sought out New Zealand artists with a similar ethos .  The result is a store offering art, homewares, giftware, furniture and jewellery that is unique, affordable, quirky and slightly cheeky.   ​Empire also stocks beautiful local artisan products, natural and organic skincare and beauty products.  And as if that wasn't enticing enough, the shop offers espresso coffee and a selection of artisan cakes and slices on Saturdays and Sundays.  There might be a cheeky quiche on offer too if you get in early.
